April Lockhart
April Lockhart was born on July 4, 1995. When she was in the seventh grade, she started playing the guitar as well as taking piano lessons which ignited her passion for music writing. When she was 12 years old, April composed her first single Different. When April was 14 years old, she devoted the majority of her time developing song ideas as well as perfecting the song. Soon after she began taking trips to write with father in NY and LA. April began also to incorporate different topics related to some of her classmates who struggle with issues such as peer pressure disabilities and even teen suicide in the song Take my Hand. Lockhart has become a sought-after lifestyle blogger and being a partner with brands that are clean and healthy like Ilia she has gained her own fan base. Her birth was without a left hand and that is an aspect of her identity, but that's not the entire story. So, Lockhart's Instagram page doesn't shy away from her disability, but it doesn't center around it as well. What's the message? that we are all a part of a multitude and that we are all unique and we're greater than the physical person we are. Lockhart, via video message from Nashville home, says that I do not want my physical appearance to define myself. I am greater than the physical person I am. However, it doesn't affect my everyday routine. I do my normal activities and have adapted to my disability. It's also part of me, so I believe it's important to talk about. Self-acceptance is a long marathon but Lockhart is an absolute inspiration on that front. Still, she acknowledges going through phases of being uncomfortable with her body, and also feeling uncomfortable wearing some clothing types which showed her arms. She wears what she likes and posts photos of herself wearing the clothes she chooses on social platforms. Self-love, she says is a journey. I'm not sure when you'll reach the point of no return. This is, however, typical for people with doubts. It's important to have people around you who are aware of and appreciate the way you feel. They will be the ones asking you: What do you think about?
